Justification
This species is range-restricted with an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 16 288 km² and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 52 km². It is known from seven locations and is potentially threatened by overgrazing. Given that this threat is currently still potential it qualifies for listing a Near Threatened under criterion D2.

This Eastern Cape endemic is found between Graaff-Reinet and Cradock on the Great Escarpment and extends to the Great Winterberg.

Description
It is recorded only on exposed intrusive dolerite sills.
Threats
This species is potentially threatened by livestock grazing and trampling.
Population

It was previously a poorly known species, but extensive field surveys of the mountains around Graaff-Reinet and the Great Winterberg Mountains from 2007 to 2012 encountered a number of previously unrecorded subpopulations. It is now known from seven distinct subpopulations. The population is not suspected to be declining, but it may be impacted if grazing pressure increases.
