Justification | This is a widespread and common species, with an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 36 786 km² and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 200 km². It is known from at least 30 subpopulations and is threatened by mining and agricultural expansion. It nearly meets the thresholds for Vulnerable under criteria B and is therefore listed as Near Threatened. |
Distribution |
Endemism | South African endemic |
Provincial distribution | Northern Cape, Western Cape |
Range | It extends along the Atlantic Coast of South Africa from near Hondeklipbaai in the Northern Cape south to Blouberg near Cape Town in Western Cape, and inland to the Bokkeveld and Pakhuis Mountains. |

Major system | Terrestrial |
Major habitats | Fynbos |
Description | It usually occurs in deep alluvial coastal sands in sandveld vegetation, or inland in fynbos. |
Threats |
About 50% of this species' deep alluvial sandy habitat has been lost to agriculture (Rooibos tea and potato cultivation) and mining. However, it remains widespread and common within its range. |
Population |
There are no quantitative population data available for this species, but about 30 subpopulations are known to exist. The population trend is inferred to be declining due to ongoing habitat loss and degradation.
