Family | IRIDACEAE |
National Status |
Status and Criteria | Near Threatened B1ab(i,ii,iii,iv,v)+2ab(i,ii,iii,iv,v) |

Justification | This species has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 6606 km², and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 116 km². It is known from 18 extant locations, and is threatened by ongoing loss and degradation of habitat as a result of crop cultivation and encroachment from invasive alien species. It is therefore listed as Near Threatened, almost meeting criteria B to be listed as Vulnerable. |
Distribution |
Endemism | South African endemic |
Provincial distribution | Western Cape |
Range | It is local in the southern parts of the Western Cape province, South Africa, where it occurs along the southern slopes and foothills of the Langeberg Mountains, with a few isolated records from the Outeniqua and Rooiberg mountains. |

Threats |
This species has lost 39% of its habitat (calculated using landcover data in GIS), and is threatened by ongoing habitat loss, fragmentation and degradation due to agricultural expansion, particularly crop cultivation. It has also lost habitat to timber plantations on the southern slopes of the Langeberg in the past. Plants on small remaining fragments are in addition threatened by competition from alien invasive plants and overgrazing. |
Population |
It is known from less than 20 subpopulations, and has a decreasing population trend.
