Habitat and Ecology
Major system
Major habitats
Leipoldtville Sand Fynbos
Sand fynbos, deep sands.
This species is severely threatened by expanding rooibos tea and potato cultivation. More than 70% of habitat has been lost in the last 25 years. Most known subpopulations remain on small fragments surrounded by crop fields where they are threatened by lack of fire. This species depends on fire for recruitment.

This species seems to be fairly common in the right deep sandy habitat. However, there has been a 70% decline of this habitat in the last 25 years. Plants are usually scattered, but in some localities there may be about 100 plants in an are of five ha. The total population is estimated to be around 2 500 plants.
