Justification
This taxon has a narrow distribution range, with an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 31 km². It is known from only two locations, and declining due to ongoing habitat loss to crop cultivation.

Range
This taxon is endemic to a small area in the Western Cape, where it occurs in the Olifants River Valley around Clanwilliam.
Habitat and Ecology
Major system
Terrestrial
Major habitats
Graafwater Sandstone Fynbos
Description
It occurs in deep sandy soils on flats at low-lying areas. Mature fruits split open and the seeds are dispersed by wind over a large area. Pollinators are not known, but it is likely to be pollinated by bees due its sweetly-scented flowers.
Threats
It is threatened by ongoing habitat loss to agricultural expansion, particularly the cultivation of rooibos tea and citrus. Recent road upgrades to the N7 national road also caused extensive damage to roadside fynbos fragments where many rare and threatened species that have lost habitat to agricultural expansion were finding refuge.
Population

This taxon is a local endemic that is rare in its range. It is only known from two locations from old records, and field surveys are needed to gain a better understanding of the size and structure of the population. A continuing decline is inferred from severe ongoing habitat loss across its range.
