This is a rare species with a wide distribution range which has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 110 125 km². It is currently not in danger of extinction and is therefore assessed as Least Concern.

Range
This species is found in the Drakensberg mountain range, from KwaZulu-Natal to Mpumalanga, and North West near Ventersdorp. It also occurs in Zaire, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Lesotho.
