Justification
Chaenostoma titanophilum is known from one location only, with an extent of occurrence (EOO) of less than 10 km². It is potentially threatened by competition from invasive alien wattles. It is therefore listed as Vulnerable under criterion D.
Distribution
Endemism
South African endemic
Provincial distribution
Western Cape
Range
This species is endemic to the Agulhas Plain in the Western Cape of South Africa, where it occurs in the vicinity of De Hoop Vlei.
Habitat and Ecology

Terrestrial
Major habitats
De Hoop Limestone Fynbos
Description
It is localized to cracks in limestone cliffs.
Threats
Large parts of the southern Cape coast, including the Agulhas Plain, is densely infested with alien invasive plants, which are outcompeting native species. Chaenostoma titanophilum is endemic to a provincial nature reserve, where there is ongoing efforts to control alien invasive plants. This localized species is dependent on effective management of alien invasive plants, and is likely to rapidly increase its risk of extinction, should invasive species increase in density.
Population

This species is a localized habitat specialist, known only from a few collections, and last recorded in 1978. Notes on the type specimen indicate that it is locally common. Field surveys are urgently needed to relocate this species in the wild. Monitoring is required to determine the impact of alien invasive plants.
