This species has a restricted range in South Africa, and although it is threatened in parts of its range, it is still fairly common and not yet in danger of extinction.

Description
Rocky slopes and sandy flats, dry floodplains and watercourses.
Threats
This species is threatened in parts of its range by habitat degradation due to severe overgrazing, causing trampling and erosion. Its habitat in Namibia is well-protected and it is not threatened.
Population

Overgrazing affects a small proportion of this species' range in the western parts of the Richtersveld, but even in areas such as Helskloof where overgrazing and degradation is very severe, it is still fairly common. Subpopulations further east are in more remote and inaccessible areas are stable.
