Justification
A widespread (EOO 18945 km²), but rarely recorded species. It is likely to be overlooked, and is not suspected to be in danger of extinction.
Distribution
Endemism
South African endemic
Provincial distribution
Northern Cape, Western Cape
Range
Bokkeveld Escarpment, Roggeveld Escarpment, and Karoopoort.
Habitat and Ecology
Major system
Terrestrial
Major habitats
Fynbos, Succulent Karoo
Description
Sandy, clay or stony flats and dolerite outcrops, 600-1600 m.
Threats
This species has lost some habitat to cultivation of dolerite renosterveld on the Bokkeveld Escarpment in the past, but crop fields are not longer expanding. It is possibly threatened by overgrazing in parts of the Bokkeveld and Roggeveld Escarpment.
Population

A widespread, but rarely recorded species. It may be overlooked and possibly confused with the widespread and common C. corrigioloides, to which it is very similar (Hilliard 1990). Recent field observations in the Hantam National Botanical Garden indicate that subpopulations consist of several thousand individuals.
