Range
This species is endemic to the mountains of the Eastern Cape interior, South Africa, from the Kamdeboo Mountains north of Aberdeen to the Winterberge near Adelaide, northwards to Noupoort, Steynsburg and Molteno.

Description
It occurs in rocky places and cliffs in montane grassland.
Threats
Field observations indicate that Jamesbrittenia crassicaulis has no severe threats.

Field surveys indicate that this species is common in suitable habitat. As it has no severe threats, the population is not suspected to be declining.
