Jamesbrittenia kraussiana is a widespread and common species with an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 28 376 km². It is not in danger of extinction, and is therefore listed as Least Concern.

This species is endemic to South Africa, and is found along the KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape coast from the Umfolozi River to East London.

Description
It is localized to grassy or scrubby habitats in forest margins.
Threats
Historically, Jamesbrittenia kraussiana has lost habitat to coastal development and urban expansion along the KwaZulu-Natal south coast and inland around Durban. There is ongoing, sporadic habitat loss in KwaZulu-Natal.
Population

A large number of recent field observations indicate that this species is still common.
