Distribution |
Endemism | South African endemic |
Provincial distribution | Northern Cape |
Range | Richtersveld, Vandersterrberg to Eksteenfontein. |
Habitat and Ecology |
Major system | Terrestrial |
Major habitats | Goariep Mountain Succulent Shrubland, Central Richtersveld Mountain Shrubland |
Description | Rocky slopes and stony places, from foothills to upper slopes. |
Threats |
This species occurs in more remote, mountainous areas where overgrazing is not yet such a severe threat, but as the vegetation on lower slopes and flats closer to settlements become increasingly depleted, livestock herds are likely to move into these areas more frequently in future. |
Population |
Population trend | Stable |
Notes |
Hilliard (1999) mentions a historical collection from the Vanrhynsdorp district, a disjunction of several hundred kilometres from all other known records of this species, which suggest that it is endemic to the Richtersveld. It is likely a misinterpretation of the locality, 'Doornpoort', misplacing it in the Vanrhynsdorp district, when it more likely refers to Doornpoort south of Kuboes. |
