Justification
Selago exigua has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of less than 10 km². It is known from one collection but likely to be under collected. It has no recorded threats. It is therefore listed under the IUCN 3.1 Criteria, globally, as Least Concern but is nationally categorised as Rare.

Threats
There are no known threats to Selago exigua.
Population

This species is rarely recorded, but may be overlooked. It is possibly more widespread in the Swartberg Mountains, and field surveys are needed to better document its distribution range. Its habitat is well-protected and the population is therefore not suspected to be declining.
