Justification
Until 2007 it was known only from the type collection by Ecklon and Zeyher, made in the 1800s. It was rediscovered by Jan Vlok, in the southern Little Karoo in 2007. Despite extensive searches within its habitat only two small fragmented subpopulations were found: one consisting of 35 plants on a road verge (all the vegetation around this subpopulation has been ploughed for wheat and ostrich pasture), and the second in a small remnant of vegetation that has been badly degraded by ostrich grazing and trampling. Only one plant occurs at this subpopulation. There are fewer than 50 mature individuals remaining.
Distribution

South African endemic
Provincial distribution
Western Cape
Range
Tis species occurs on flats north of the Outeniqua Mountains in the Little Karoo, from Herold to the base of Robinson's Pass.

Description
Plants grow in deep, loamy-clay soil in Blossoms Asbos Gwarrieveld vegetation.
Threats
Threats include ploughing for wheat and ostrich farming. Trampling by ostriches is also a threat. Road verge maintenance is an additional threat as the largest subpopulation occurs on a road verge that could be cleared any time for construction purposes.
