Description
Quartzite flats, often in spongy saline soil, or on rocky slopes.
Threats
Severe overstocking of communal rangelands across the Richtersveld is causing ongoing, habitat degradation. In many places, overgrazing is so severe, it has led to a loss of species diversity and shrub cover, with only a few pioneer species surviving. Exposed soil is vulnerable to water and wind erosion, which is increasing in many areas.
