Justification | This species has a limited range in South Africa, and is possibly declining in places due to ongoing habitat degradation. It is however still common, and also widespread and common in Namibia, and not considered in danger of extinction. It is therefore assessed as Least Concern. |

Threats |
This species is threatened by ongoing habitat degradation as a result of trampling and soil erosion due to overstocking of livestock on the South African portion of the Richtersveld, particularly in areas such as Cornellskop, Numees and on Helskloof Pass. |
Population |
This species occurs in large subpopulations and is not grazed (Van Zyl 2000). It is widespread and common across southern Namibia, but has a restricted range in South Africa.
