Description
Marine cliffs.
Threats
Urban development around the shoreline at Betty's Bay and Kleinmond has severely impacted the population of this highly localized species. Although some plants on inaccessible cliffs are protected from direct impact of construction, nearby development has led to the exclusion of fire. Erepsias are dependent on fire for regeneration, and become dormant in mature vegetation. They are therefore often overlooked in Environmental Impact surveys.
Population

Erepsia steytlerae is an extremely localized habitat specialist, known from a small area between Betty's Bay and Kleinmond. It is currently known from two small subpopulations, one near Betty's Bay and one on the outskirts of Kleinmond. Both subpopulations are small (<10 mature individuals), but they have been recorded in mature (unburnt) vegetation, and may therefore under-represent the population size.
