Anthospermum esterhuysenianum var. hirsutum has a very restricted range (extent of occurrence 158 km²), but it is not threatened.

It occurs on rocky south-facing slopes, 1000-1500 m.
Threats
This taxon occurs in remote montane areas that are well-protected. It has no known severe threats.
Population

This taxon has a restricted range, and is known from only three records. Its habitat is in remote wilderness areas, and plants are cryptic, making it highly likely to be under-sampled. As there are no known severe threats, the population is not suspected to be declining.
