Habitat and Ecology
Major system
Terrestrial
Major habitats
Fynbos, Succulent Karoo
Description
Deep sandy soils.
Threats
Within this species' known range, there is ongoing loss of arid fynbos occurring on deep sandy soils due to expansion of rooibos tea cultivation. H. conica is however a somewhat weedy annual, and readily colonises abandoned croplands. Notes on some collections indicate it to be a dominant species in fallow crop fields, and therefore agricultural expansion is not considered to be a severe threat to this species.
Population

This species is very common, and the population is not declining.
