Mesembryanthemum digitata subsp. digitata has a limited distribution range, with an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 588 km². It is locally common and has no severe threats, and is therefore not in danger of extinction. It is listed as Least Concern.

It occurs on quartz-covered saline shale on flats or gentle slopes.
