Justification
This species has a wide distribution along the coast and inland regions of the Western and Eastern Cape provinces, with an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 53 693 km². It is known from many subpopulations and is not suspected to be declining. It is therefore assessed as Least Concern.

Description
It is found mainly on stony clay flats and lower slopes in renosterveld or in grassland in the east of its range.
Threats
Parts of its habitat, particularly the flats and lower slopes have been lost to agriculture and coastal development in the past. Although the habitat continues to decline due to ongoing degradation by livestock, irregular fires and invasion by alien plants, this species still persists and does not appear to be impacted.
