Population

The biology of this species is poorly known, but it appears to flower only in response to fire. It was known from a single collection made in 1999 during a survey of the flora the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve. The plants appeared along a small tributary of the Palmiet River following a fire and was not seen again after the vegetation across the Palmiet River burnt in the summer of 2000. Several visits to apparently similar streams opposite the original site failed to locate it. A small subpopulation of about 25 plants was recorded after a fire in 2010 (A. Johns and N.A. Helme pers. obs.).
