Justification
This widespread species has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 191 639 km² and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 680 km². It has no known threats and is not suspected to be declining. It is therefore listed as Least Concern.

Range
This species is widely distributed through tropical and south tropical Africa, in Angola, Zaire (Democratic Republic of the Congo), Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Mozambique, Botswana, northern and central Namibia and the northern parts of South Africa and Swaziland. In South Africa, the species has been recorded from Limpopo, North West province, Gauteng, Mpumalanga and northern Free Sate province.

Description
Plants are found in drier grassland and savanna or in open woodland, usually along pans or depressions, along roadsides or railways, or as a weed of cultivated land.
Threats
This species has no known threats.
Population

This species has had 331 observations posted by citizen scientists on the iNaturalist platform between 2012 and 2024 from across its known range. From these observations we infer that the population is locally common, stable and not declining.
