This species has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 191 km², and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 12 km². It is known from three locations, and does not face any threats. It is therefore listed under the IUCN 3.1 Criteria, globally, as Least Concern but is nationally categorised as Rare.

This species is endemic to South Africa, and is restricted to the interior Namaqualand and western Bushmanland in Northern Cape.
