Justification
This species has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 11 259 km², and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 80 km². It is known from 14 locations in lowland habitats, with the majority of subpopulations occurring in the Vredenburg peninsula area. This area is under severe pressure from coastal development and suitable habitat is declining as a result. It is therefore listed as Near Threatened, almost meeting criteria B to be listed as Vulnerable.

It is endemic to South Africa, and is restricted to the Atlantic Coast and near interior of Western Cape, from near Mamre north to the Olifants River Valley near Klawer, especially common in the Saldanha Bay area.

Description
It occurs in sandveld and renosterveld, on shale and granite outcrops.
Threats
This species has lost 67% of its habitat (calculated using landcover data in GIS). It is threatened by ongoing habitat loss to coastal and industrial development, quarrying, crop cultivation and competition from alien invasive plants.
Population

It has 14 known locations, with a population size of at least 5 000 individuals. The population is decreasing.
