This species has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 95 624 km², and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 624 km². It faces many threats and has lost a significant portion of its habitat, however, it is listed as Least Concern.

It is endemic to South Africa, extending from the Bokkeveld Mountains in Northern Cape to the Cape Peninsula in Western Cape and east to Port Elizabeth in Eastern Cape.

Description
It occurs on sandy loam, stony sandstone slopes or on clay in renosterveld.
Threats
This species has lost 43 % of its habitat (calculated using landcover data in GIS). It is under threat from habitat degradation from livestock, habitat loss from agriculture, and competition from alien invasive species.
Population

It is known to occur at over 40 subpopulations. This species has had 404 observations posted by citizen scientists on the iNaturalist platform between 2007 and 2023 from across its known range, from these observations we infer that the population is locally common, stable and not declining.
