This species has a wide distribution in the eastern southern Africa (extent of occurrence 45 712 km²) and is not threatened. It is therefore listed as Least Concern.

This species is relatively widespread in eastern southern Africa, extending from Lesotho and eastern Free State in South Africa near Witzieshoek through the KwaZulu-Natal Drakensberg to the Eastern Cape at least as far south as Barkly Pass.
