This species has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 92 628 km², and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 76 km². It is known from 17 subpopulations and has no severe threats. It is therefore listed as Least Concern.

It is restricted to the Drakensberg and outlying ranges of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa and Lesotho as far south as Ngeli Mountain.

Description
It occurs on wet to marshy slopes and flats usually among grasses and sedges.
Threats
This species has lost a small portion of its habitat due to agriculture and competition from alien invasive species. Harvesting at low levels has also been reported.
