Justification | This rare species is known from two collections from the same site and was last observed in 2006. It has an extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) of 8 km². No plants resembling this species have been recollected at the type locality since, nor elsewhere, and the population has probably declined. It is listed as Data Deficient. |
Distribution |
Endemism | South African endemic |
Provincial distribution | Northern Cape |
Range | It is endemic to South Africa, and is restricted to the base of the Hantamsberg Mountain near Calvinia in Northern Cape. It has been recorded south and east of this range. |

Major habitats | Succulent Karoo |
Description | It occurs in heavy red clay usually among dolerite rocks. |
Threats |
Threats to this species are unknown. The only known locality is from an area which is now a nature reserve, but the population may have been affected by dam construction or other infrastructure development, such as road expansions. |
Population |
It is a rare and very poorly known species that is suspected to flower only sporadically in response to good rainfall. The area is fairly well surveyed and there would have been more records if it was more common.
