Justification
A localized habitat specialist with an extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) of 8 km². It is currently only known from two locations where it is threatened by habitat loss to mining. It is therefore listed as Endangered under criteria B.
Distribution
Endemism
South African endemic
Provincial distribution
Western Cape
Range
It is endemic to South Africa, and is found in Knersvlakte in southern Namaqualand in Western Cape.
Habitat and Ecology
Major system
Terrestrial
Major habitats
Knersvlakte Quartz Vygieveld
Description
It occurs in cracks in limestone outcrops and cliffs, occasionally in loamy soils at the base of limestone cliffs.
Threats
This species' habitat is already partially disturbed as a result of prospecting activities, and there are now mining applications on both farms where it is known to occur, which is very likely to be authorised (N.A. Helme pers. comm.).
Population

It is known from only two subpopulations, which may soon be lost to limestone mining. Less than 50 plants were observed in one of the localities in 2012. The population trend is decreasing.
