Justification
This rare and localised habitat specialist has an extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) of 12 km². It is known from two locations, but is not threatened. It is therefore listed under the IUCN 3.1. criteria as Least Concern but is nationally recognised as Critically Rare.
Distribution
Endemism
South African endemic
Provincial distribution
Northern Cape
Range
It is endemic to South Africa, and is known from just three populations in Northern Cape, two from the Roggeveld Escarpment west of Middelpos and the other from the southern slopes of the Keiskei Mountains southeast of Calvinia.
Habitat and Ecology
Major system
Terrestrial
Major habitats
Roggeveld Karoo
Description
It grows in shallow, fine grained soil over rocky sandstone pavement.
Threats
Some of the surrounding area is cultivated, but this species occurs in rocky soils that cannot be ploughed, and agricultural expansion is unlikely to impact the population.
Population

It is currently known from two subpopulations, but it occurs in a remote and botanically still relatively poorly explored area. It is likely that more subpopulations exist in other similar habitat, and more surveys are needed to determine the size and extent of the population.
