Justification | Babiana planifolia occurs in Namaqualand and has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 4 271 km², and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 44 km². It is known from seven subpopulations and can be locally common. It is not suspected to be declining and is therefore listed as Least Concern. |

Description | It occurs in Succulent Karoo open shrubland on stony slopes, mainly on fine-grained soils. |
Threats |
This species has lost only 3% of its habitat (calculated using landcover data in GIS). Much of the area around Steinkopf has been severely overgrazed in the past, this may have had some impact on the populations of this taxon. |
Population |
It is known from seven subpopulations, but the number of individuals in each subpopulation is unknown. It is widespread and locally common, but poorly collected.
