Babiana flabellifolia is widespread and has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 31 123 km², and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 112 km². It is not under threat, and is therefore listed as Least Concern.

Range
This species occurs in the northwestern parts of South Africa, extending from the Anenous Mountains of northern Namaqualand in the Northern Cape to Koekenaap in the south in the Western Cape, and inland to the Bokkeveld Plateau near Calvinia.

Description
It occurs in clay and granitic soils, in renosterveld and succulent karroid scrub.
Threats
This species has lost only 3% of its habitat in the past to crop cultivation (calculated using landcover data in GIS). Threats are not considered to be having a severe impact.
Population

There is not much known about the population of this species. It is known from at least 20 locations but is likely also undercollected.
