Justification
This is a restricted range endemic to the Richtersveld plant centre of endemism, it has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 3 193 km², and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 36 km². It is known to occur at seven locations. It is declining in parts of its range due to severe overgrazing, and is listed as Vulnerable under criterion B.

Range
It is endemic to South Africa, and is found from the southern Richtersveld to Springbok in the Northern Cape.
Habitat and Ecology
Major system
Terrestrial
Major habitats
Anenous Plateau Shrubland, Southern Richtersveld Scorpionstailveld, Central Richtersveld Mountain Shrubland, Namaqualand Klipkoppe Shrubland, Stinkfonteinberge Quartzite Fynbos
Description
It occurs in succulent Karoo shrubland, in rock crevices on granite outcrops.
Threats
Parts of this taxon's range is severely overgrazed as a result of livestock overstocking in communally owned areas, however it also occurs on mountain slopes and remote valleys where grazing pressure is currently low. As rangelands closer to settlements and on the western plains of the Richtersveld are increasingly degraded, herders are starting to move their livestock into more remote montane areas in search of grazing, and grazing pressure is likely to increase in future.
Population

Seven subpopulations are known. In 1977, it was recorded as being very rare in the Richtersveld, and in 2014, less than 10 plants were observed in Koeskopfontein. This species appears to always occur as scattered individuals. The population is declining due to overgrazing in parts of its range.
