Justification
This species has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 8076 km², and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 96 km². It is locally common in the Kamiesberg and surrounding granitic hills, and is therefore listed as Least Concern.

This species is endemic to the Northern Cape Province of South Africa, and is found in central Namaqualand, in Kamiesberg and the highlands between Kamieskroon and Garies.

Description
It occurs on rocky and gravel slopes, on the foot of mountains and hills, where it grows on granitic soils in Mountain Renosterveld.
Threats
This species has no significant threats. The major landuse where it occurs is livestock grazing and some areas of its range fall within communal lands which can become degraded from overgrazing. However, species of Babiana are generally able to withstand grazing pressure so no significant decline is suspected.
