Justification
A Western Cape endemic that has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 2968 km², and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 72 km². It is known from between three and five four locations. Its habitat continues to be degraded due to expansion of agriculture fields and alien plant invasion. Four small, severely fragmented subpopulations remain after urban expansion on the Cape Flats and wheat and vineyard expansion in the Swartland. It is therefore listed as Endangered under criterion B.

Major habitats
Swartland Shale Renosterveld, Swartland Granite Renosterveld, Swartland Alluvium Fynbos
Description
It occurs in clay and stony flats and lower slopes in renosterveld.
Threats
This species has at least 90% of its habitat (calculated using landcover data in GIS) to agriculture, urbanization and aliens (N.A. Helme 2006). These threats have led to over 90% of known localities going extinct and the only definite extant location is the one near Saron. The plants near the location at Joostenberg are possibly still extant. Two remnant fragments where plants were found near Saron and Heuningberg were ploughed in 2022 (observed in recent satellite images from Google Earth).
Population

This species is known from between three and five subpopulations that are small and in isolated patches of fynbos and renosterveld that are between 40 and 50 kilometres apart. The population continues to decline due to ongoing habitat loss and degradation.
