Babiana spathacea is endemic to South Africa, and is restricted to the western Karoo of Northern Cape, extending from Loeriesfontein in the north to Calvinia and near Nieuwoudtville in the south.

Description
It occurs on stony clay soils, often in dolerite outcrops, in karroid scrub and renosterveld.
