This montane species has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 1343 km², and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 72 km². It is known from between 15 and 16 subpopulations, and is not in danger of extinction. It is therefore listed as Least Concern.

This species is endemic to South Africa, and is found in the southern Drakensberg in Eastern Cape, recorded from Cala and Barkly Pass to Maclear.
