Justification
This subspecies has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 5 963 km², and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 60 km². It is known from nine locations, and is declining as a result of livestock overgrazing and trampling. It is therefore listed as Vulnerable under criteria B.

It is endemic to South Africa, and is centred in the Richtersveld in Northern Cape, mainly north of Eksteenfontein.

Description
It occurs on rocky slopes and outcrops with the corms often wedged in cracks and fissures.
Threats
This subspecies occurs on lower slopes and flats, where degradation due to severe overstocking of communally owned rangelands is ongoing.
Population

It is known from three subpopulations, and has a decreasing population trend.
