Justification
This subspecies is a Richtersveld endemic, known from three locations. It has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 647 km², and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 36 km². It is declining due to overgrazing and trampling, and is therefore listed as Endangered under criteria B.

It is endemic to South Africa, and is centred in the Richtersveld in Northern Cape, mainly north of Eksteenfontein.

Description
It occurs on rocky slopes and outcrops with the corms often wedged in cracks and fissures.
Threats
This subspecies occurs on lower slopes and flats, where degradation due to severe overstocking of communally owned rangelands is ongoing.

It is known from three locations, and has a decreasing population trend.
