Range
This species is scattered through the eastern, southern and tropical Africa, from north of Durban in KwaZulu Natal through the northern provinces of South Africa as far west as Rustenburg and Zeerust. It also occurs in Eswatini and Mozambique to Zambia and southern Tanzania.

Description
It occurs in humus-rich soils in scrub, deciduous woodland or more rarely forest. It may occasionally occur along streams or in anthills.
Threats
This species has no known threats.
Population

This species is widespread and abundant, with a stable population trend. It is found in more than 50 subpopulations. There are 20 herbaria collections of this species with dates ranging from 1895-2015 along with 155 recent observation records on iNaturalist.
