Assessor(s) | L. von Staden |
Justification | Between seven and 10 small, isolated, severely fragmented subpopulations remain within an EOO of 4450 km² after more than 80% habitat loss to crop cultivation and urban expansion. Remaining subpopulations continue to decline due to ongoing habitat loss and degradation and competition from alien invasive plants. |
Distribution |
Endemism | South African endemic |
Provincial distribution | Western Cape |
Range | Piketberg and Tulbagh to Caledon. |
Habitat and Ecology |
Major system | Terrestrial |

Description | Seasonally damp, heavy clay or granitic alluvium. |
Threats |
Less than 20% of this species' lowland habitat remains after extensive losses to crop cultivation and urban expansion. Subpopulations occur on isolated remnants, where they continue to be threatened by ongoing habitat loss and degradation, competition from alien invasive plants, inappropriate fire management and overgrazing. |
Population |
Only a few isolated subpopulations remain on remnants of natural vegetation.
