Description
Dolerite-derived clay or shale slopes, rarely in tillite soils among sandstone rocks.
Threats
This taxon has lost some habitat to crop cultivation around Nieuwoudtville in the past, however this affects less than 5% of its range, and cultivation of clay soils is no longer expanding. Further west towards Calvinia and northwards towards Loeriesfontein it is not threatened.
Population

This subspecies is fairly common on the Bokkeveld Escarpment around Nieuwoudtville (Goldblatt and Manning 2008).
