Description
Shale renosterveld.
Threats
The majority of this species' habitat was flooded when the Theewaterskloof Dam was constructed. The rest has been converted to orchards and crop fields, and only a few fragments remain. These continue to be lost to housing developments, agricultural expansion, and degraded due to fire exclusion, grazing and spreading, unmanaged alien invasive plants.
Population

This species is known from only two collections in a small area south-west of the Theewaterskloof Dam, where it occurs in Western Rûens Shale Renosterveld. Only about four renosterveld fragments remain in this area, which need to be surveyed for this species. It was last recorded in 2006. It is not certain whether a population recorded in 1976 still survives - the locality description is not precise enough to determine whether intact habitat remains. According to Goldblatt and Manning (2008), this is one of the most threatened species in the genus, persisting mainly in road verges. The population size is not known, but subpopulations are likely to be small.
