Justification
This species is only known from the type collection, made in the early 19th century. Despite the area where it was last seen being botanically well explored, it has not been recorded again. The area is now extensively transformed to citrus orchards, and this species is possibly extinct.

Population

Ixia ecklonii is known from a single collection from the early 19th century. No specific locality is given, but it was presumably collected from the Olifants River Valley north of Citrusdal. This area is botanically well explored, and yet this species was never recorded again (Goldblatt and Manning 2011).
