Endemism
South African endemic
Provincial distribution
Western Cape
Range

Habitat and Ecology
Major system
Terrestrial
Major habitats
Eastern Ruens Shale Renosterveld, Central Ruens Shale Renosterveld, Western Ruens Shale Renosterveld, Elim Ferricrete Fynbos
Description
Heavy clay soils at low elevations.
Threats
This subspecies' habitat, Rûens Shale Renosterveld and Elim Ferricrete Fynbos, is already 93% transformed, predominantly for crop cultivation, and only small fragments remain. Loss continues, and in addition, remaining fragments continue to be degraded by alien invasive plants, a lack of fire and severe overgrazing.
Population

This subspecies has been recorded only four times in the past 20 years, from very small, isolated and degraded fragments. All other records are very old, and from vague localities in areas now >90% transformed. It is estimated that fewer than 10 subpopulations remain.
