Justification
Ixia pavonia is a highly localized species, with an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 77 km². It is locally common after fire and is not threatened. It is therefore listed under the IUCN 3.1 Criteria, globally, as Least Concern but is nationally categorised as Rare.

Description
Plants grow on shallow, rocky clay soils on steep slopes.
Threats
There are no severe threats to this species. Its specific habitat is unsuitable to crop cultivation and it is not sensitive to grazing.
Population

Ixia pavonia was recorded to be locally common after a fire on the farm Vondelingsfontein. It is quite likely more common than the two records indicate, as the vegetation in the area seldom burns.
