Although this species has a limited range (EOO 6904 km²), it is known from more than 10 locations and is not threatened or declining.

No severe threats: less than 5% of this species' range is transformed.
Population

This species has a limited distribution and is rarely collected, and most records are very old. Flowering is stimulated by fire, and it is possible that subpopulations in very old veld may be overlooked.

Plants from the Koue Bokkeveld and Cederberg formerly included in this species are now recognized as a separate species, Ixia cedarmontana (Goldblatt and Manning 2011).
