Justification
Plants at two known locations (EOO and AOO <10 km²) continue to decline due to habitat degradation, competition from alien invasive plants and expanding vineyards.
Distribution
Endemism
South African endemic
Provincial distribution
Western Cape
Range
Breede River Valley south of Worcester.
Habitat and Ecology
Major system

Major habitats
Breede Alluvium Fynbos
Description
Deep alluvial sands on riverbanks.
Threats
The two known localities for this species, on adjacent farms on the banks of the Breede River, are both small fragments surrounded by vineyards, and one is severely degraded and overrun with alien invasive plants. It occurs on privately owned land where it is threatened by ongoing agricultural expansion.
Population

This species was first discovered in 1983, and to date remains only known from a single subpopulation. Some population estimates indicated that there are less than 200 plants, however, it was also reported to be locally abundant in 1984-5. Since then, the site has been increasingly degraded. The species was recorded in the same area again in 2012, but surveys are needed to determine the extent and size of the population.
