Threats |
Less than 30% of this species' habitat remains after extensive loss to urban expansion (predominantly on the Cape Peninsula), and crop cultivation - mainly vineyards. Remaining subpopulations occur on small remnants of natural vegetation, and the large majority are threatened by competition from dense, unmanaged infestations of alien invasive plants, as well as habitat degradation due to overgrazing. Habitat loss to urban expansion and agriculture continues. |
Population |
A formerly abundant species that has declined extensively, but is still fairly common in remaining suitable habitat on the Cape lowlands. It continues to decline due to ongoing habitat loss and degradation.
